Rental Housing

Meeting the housing needs of Aboriginal people is a key priority for the Department Of Housing And Works.

There is strong demand for rental accommodation, and we have responded to this by providing an additional 2,500 homes beyond the mainstream program which are allocated exclusively to Aboriginal people. These properties are managed by Homeswest according to mainstream policies.

While your name is placed on a waiting list along with all other customers when you apply for rental accommodation, if one of the additional homes allocated for Aboriginal housing becomes available in the area you nominate, you will be moved ahead of the mainstream list to obtain this home.

If you would like any advice or assistance with tenancy matters, there are four Aboriginal Customer Support Officers available to help you. These officers are all Aboriginal people who understand the cultural needs of Aboriginal people. They can be contacted on (08) 9222 4777 or Toll Free 1800 621 826.

Applications for rental accommodation can be made by completing an application form available from any of our offices.

Click here for more information on how to apply for rental accommodation.

** While all housing applicants are required to provide certain documents to show proof of identity, a statement from a recognised Aboriginal organisation confirming your identity, or a reference from a family member who can prove his or her identity, is acceptable if these documents are not available.
