BUILDING INDUSTRY BRIEFING
|
Housing Procurement is responsible for implementing the capital works program to buy and build homes to increase the housing stock of the Department of Housing and Government Regional Officers Housing.
It engages private architects in design, and through the tender process engages builders to construct its dwellings.
Housing Procurement has won many industry awards for its construction projects, proving itself a leader in the field.
Land and Stock Acquisition
The construction process commences at the acquisition stage.
Land is acquired either for single residential or group housing use. That land is either purchased privately, or made available through the land development processes of Land and Housing Development.
The increase in stock is not always achieved through construction. Housing Procurement also operates the Spot Purchase Program which enables established dwellings to be purchased in the private market.
Construction
A mix of dwelling types are constructed throughout the State for the customers of Housing Services and Community Housing.
Special emphasis is given to the design and construction of appropriate housing for people with disabilities and Aboriginal households.
The construction of dwellings are also project managed for the Government Regional Officers' Housing and the Health Department.
Support for the Building Industry
The Department values the relationship it has with the Master Builders Association and the Housing Industry Association, and supports both groups through its financial sponsorship programme.
Approved Materials
The Department maintains high levels of quality in the construction of new rental homes. In order to achieve this, the Department has developed a list of materials and products which have been thoroughly assessed and are considered acceptable for use. The Approved Materials List is currently undergoing a major review, and any enquiries relating to it should be emailed to david.snook@housing.wa.gov.au
