Australian single pension
From 20 September 2009, the Federal Government will provide single pensioners with an increase in
their basic Centrelink pension. For the benefit of public housing tenants this amount will be excluded
from rent calculations for the period up until 20 September 2010.
The boost is for the following pension types:
- Aged Pension
- Disability Support Pension
- Carer payment
- Veteran Service Pension
- Income Support Supplement
- War Widow Pension
- Bereavements Allowance
- Wife Pension
- Widow B Pension
Australian couples pension
There are no increases in the basic pension for pensioner couples other than the normal cost of living
adjustment. There is however an increase in the couples combined supplement, which amounts to
$10.14 per week and is in addition to the basic pension. All Australian pension supplementary payments
are currently and will remain non assessable income and not counted in households rental calculation.
The new pension supplement
Existing pension supplements such as Pharmaceutical Allowance, Utilities Allowance and Telephone
Allowance will continue to be excluded from calculation.
